Project Home Mission

MICA's Project Home Mission was originally designed in our Poweshiek County Development Center as a way for churches to connect with families in need in their community. Project Home Mission has grown to include services in Story county, as part of Steps to Success, as well as working with the Family Development and Self-Sufficiency Program in Marshall County.

When churches contribute to Project Home Mission, they are supporting families through expanding access to Family Development services, which are designed to help families meet their goals and develop ways of overcoming barriers to their success.

Project Home Mission works through family development specialists, who meet one-on-one with families in regular home visits. Together, specialists and families address barriers to self-sufficiency. They complete assessment tools and develop goals around areas critical to the family's overall well-being, such as employment, substance abuse, education, physical health, and mental health.

Family Development is a powerful model. It empowers families to take control of their lives and create change. Family Development equips families with the skills they need for a successful future: strong problem-solving and goal-setting skills, an understanding of the dynamics at play in their lives, and a vision for the future.

Why Sponsor Project Home Mission?

Your congregation cares about the needy in our community.  So do we.  Connecting with us is a great way to foster positive change in families' lives. Helping people and changing lives is at the core of what we do.

Funds provided to Project Home Mission are used to expand family development services, allowing a Family Development Specialist to provide services in the home one-on-one with families in need.  The Family Development Specialist helps them reach goals by reducing barriers in their lives through means of referrals and support.
