NEW! Early Head Start Non-Supervising Lead Teacher – Marshalltown, IA

If you are passionate about toddlers, this may be a position for you!  With a student to teacher ratio of 4 to 1 you can have a real impact on children ages 6 weeks to 3 years.   Help children gain the skills and confidence they need to succeed at home, school and the community.  Promote the social, emotional, physical and cognitive development of children.  Encourage parent involvement in all aspects of the program.  

Full-time, 12-month position in the Toddler Room (with children ages 18 months to 3 years).  Excellent benefit package and ongoing professional development.  $13.92 to 20.00 per hour, commensurate with education. Position starts in August.

 

Required:

Early Childhood Programs Family Development Specialist - Marshalltown, IA

You will work collaboratively with families, education staff and community partners to ensure the program meets the developmental needs of children.  Through home visits you will support parents/guardians in addressing family needs and setting and achieving family goals.

NEW! Breastfeeding Peer Counselor - Ames or Marshalltown , IA

 

Are you passionate about breastfeeding?  Do you enjoy sharing your personal breastfeeding experiences with other moms?  Then this may be the perfect job for you!  Join the WIC team as a Breastfeeding Peer Counselor and provide basic breastfeeding information, support and encouragement to new mothers.  Counsel pregnant and breastfeeding WIC mothers at the WIC clinic during scheduled clinic hours, and by phone, email, text outside of usual clinic hours.  Educate mothers on the benefits of breastfeeding, overcoming common barriers, and getting a good start with breastfeeding.  You will provide services to WIC participants in seven counties in central Iowa.  

 

Casual, on call position, averaging approximately 12 hours per week, $13.00 per hour. 

Required:
•    High school diploma or equivalent  
•    Personal breastfeeding experience
•    A current or former WIC participant (in any state)

Family Development Assistant - Ames, Grinnell, Iowa Falls, Marshalltown and Tama, IA

 

Seeking individuals with great customer service skills to join the team at our Family Development Centers in our five county service area.  This is casual position, working as-needed to fill in for regular staff when they are out of the office.  The assistant will assist families to apply for resources, program services, and work with them to resolve crisis situations.  Strong communication skills and the ability to learn and effectively use a variety of computing software and databases is required. 

Candidates who can work in multiple counties are preferred.  This is a casual position working as needed.  This is not a full time position.  $9.74 per hour.

Required:  High School diploma or equivalent

AmeriCorps Volunteer Position - Food Insecurity Response AmeriCorps

One position in Ames, IA and One position in Grinnell, IA

Mid-Iowa Community Action (MICA) Food Insecurity Response AmeriCorps will respond to food insecurity needs across our core service area. This position will help sort, package, and distribute food and household items to food insecure households. In addition, they will assist in the development of innovative ways to provide nutritional, educational, and financial resources to households in need with consideration of special circumstances surrounding COVID-19.

 

The AmeriCorps member must have:

  • Willingness and ability to serve as a team member, provide support, communicate clearly, ask for guidance when needed, and admit mistakes

  • Ability to handle responsibility, make decisions and problem-solve in the moment

  • Emotional maturity, situational awareness, and comfort taking broad direction

  • Flexibility and capacity to take initiative

The member will receive a living allowance of $3,780 for completing 450 hours of service. Upon successful completion of the term of service, the member will receive a Segal Education Award worth $1,612.43 from the National Service Trust.

  • Must have at least a high school diploma or recognized equivalent by start date

  • Must be either a citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident alien of the United States

  • Must pass mandatory pre-service background checks

  • Must have and maintain reliable transportation, a valid driver’s license and proof of automobile insurance
