In this position you will be you will be documenting MICA’s work and the stories of families served by the agency throughout MICA’s five county service area.  The position will focus on telling the story of poverty in Central Iowa through writing, photography, interviewing, videography and other related mediums.  You will visit staff or families on site or in a MICA office and engage in active listening to gather information about their experiences.  You will document the stories of families and staff through use of photography, videography and audio recording.  You must maintain strict confidentiality and create content with appropriate permissions for sharing publicly in a business setting.

 

This is a full-time temporary position through August 9, 2022.  Position is 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, $20 per hour.

Required:  

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Some college coursework or related work experience in sociology, communications, marketing, fine arts (creative writing, photography, visual mediums) or relevant fields.

Site Coordinator, Marshalltown Community School Project - Marshalltown, IA

Food Aide - Tama, IA

NEW!  Summer Program Teacher - Marshalltown, IA

Join our summer learning team and make a difference in lives of children ages 3 to 12!  Provide a successful, safe and supervised educational setting for children participating in the summer learning program.  The summer program teacher is responsible for the implementation of supplemental reading and/or math interventions. This supplemental service occurs in tightly focused, face-to-face learning sessions with the summer learning students.  The structure of the supplemental service is an intervention model aimed to accelerate each student’s progress toward a narrow and specific goal.   Teachers will be responsible for direct instruction, assessment, documentation and individualization of instruction based on the learning goals established for each student. 

Two 4-week sessions.  Session One: June 13th to July 8th.   Session Two:  July 11th to August 5th.  Hours are 8:15 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. $50.00 per hour.

Family Development Assistant -

AmeriCorps Member Position

Food Security Response AmeriCorps - Ames, Iowa 

(based in Ames, may travel to other sites as needed)

 

Become a part of a dynamic, innovative organization as an AmeriCorps Member working to deliver support to meet the basic needs of Iowans. Every day will be a different adventure at Mid-Iowa Community Action (MICA) as a Food Security Response AmeriCorps member! You will respond to food insecurity needs across our core service area. This position will help sort, package, and distribute food and household items to food insecure households. In addition, they will assist in the development of innovative ways to provide nutritional, educational, and financial resources to households in need. This will include outreach activities and promoting our services!  

The AmeriCorps member must have:

  • Must be either a citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident alien of the United States
