Tax Preparer:
Volunteer Tax Preparers allow MICA and other community organizations to provide free tax preparation services to low to moderate income working families and to bring unclaimed tax refunds back to the local economy. The Earned Income Tax Credit is the largest anti-poverty program in the country and lifts more children out of poverty than any other program. Tax Preparer training and support is provided by the Internal Revenue Service and local coordinators.Volunteers are needed to assist at free tax preparation sites in Grinnell, Tama, and Marshalltown.
Reading Early to Advance Children’s Health (REACH) Volunteer
REACH Volunteers read to children participating in MICA’s Women, Infants and Children (WIC) program and Public Health services on the third or fourth Tuesday of the month for one hour. Volunteers provide children access to print materials (an important step in literacy skill building) and provide a fun and interactive story time. The REACH project is a partnership among The Stewart Library, MICA, Grinnell Regional Medical Center, and Communities for Literate Iowa Kids (CLIK). One hour a month may not seem like a lot, but can have a positive impact in the life of a child. The REACH Volunteer opportunity is located in Grinnell.
