Roughly 43% of families spend more than they earn each year. When families are spending more than they even have, it can be difficult to save. It's even more difficult for low-income families who face the same pressing needs as others, but on a much more meager income. That's where MICA's Family Financial Fitness program comes in to play.
The Family Financial Fitness program offers financial counseling, helping families locate areas of savings, no matter how big or small. The program, offered to families with a household income at or below 200% of poverty, offers one-on-one personal finance advice and counseling. A financial counselor sits down with individuals and creates monthly and annual budgets, locating areas where even the smallest increments of savings can be developed. Financial counselors also assist individuals and families with savings account setup in order to help them develop assets and reduce debt.
