As with other nonprofit organizations, it is crucial for MICA to understand the dynamics of the communities we serve. This can be as simple as locating demographic information from the United States Census Bureau and as extensive as hosting focus groups with the families we serve as well members of our local communities. For MICA's Head Start and Early Head Start programs, this information is comprised each year in a single document known as a community assessment.
The Head Start Community Assessment is the collection and analysis of information associated with the needs and characteristics of Head Start and Early Head Start eligible children and families in MICA's service area. It identifies the needs of children and families and locates program and community resources available to meet these needs. MICA also uses this document to identify any gaps in the needs of families and the resources available to them and works to close these gaps.
